Who is LSA
- LSA, Latvian Stuttering Association, is a public non-profit
organization whose purpose is to support the interests of People Who Stutter
(PWS throughout the world). We also welcome all people who are of Latvian heritage and those
who support us.
- We were organized to help those of us who stutter to
unconditionally accept ourselves all the while learning how to manage our
stuttering better (i.e. minimize the disruption in our communication).
- Inherent in our charter is the goal to encourage ourselves to
actualize our potentials: to take risks, to live our lives to the fullest,
to establish meaningful relationships with other people, and to achieve our
lives' ambitions whenever possible.
Our Vision
- To impart to our members that stuttering does not make a person
less worthwhile or less capable of leading a rich, fulfilling, and creative
life.
- To create a world that understands stuttering and People Who
Stutter. Have the world understand that great leaders (such as Winston
Churchill), great businessmen such as (GE's Jack Welch), great scientists
(such as Charles Darwin), and great actors (such as Jimmy Stewart) have all
stuttered.
- To provide an environment where we can discuss and work through our
feelings of shame, guilt, fear, and inferiority about stuttering and calmly
go about our daily lives.
- To provide a supportive environment for both People Who Stutter
and their families.
- To provide role models for People Who Stutter in all walks of life.
- To improve the quality of speech therapy given to People Who
Stutter, both in Latvia and abroad.
- To encourage research into the phenomenon of stuttering.

Pathologists nominated by the elected members. All LSA activities

LSA messages
... to People Who Stutter (PWS)
- If you are a person who stutters you are not alone. There are many
like us and we can help each other. We will show the world that a
person who stutters is a normal human being.
... to the general public
- Stuttering is not a sign of being stupid, abnormal or incapable.
Stuttering is a speech problem only! All we are asking is a bit
of patience.
... to employers
- When you are pondering employing a person who stutters, evaluate his
skills. Don't reject him because of stuttering. You may loose an excellent
worker.
... to those looking for a mate
- The stuttering person you meet, may be your ideal mate! Give
it a chance.
